Cowboys Fall to NEO in OCAC Opener, 77-71

MIAMI, Okla.–Connors State playing before a hostile crowd fell behind 72-61 with 3:21 remaining to battle back to within four points with 26 seconds remaining but could not overtake Northeastern A&M, falling 77-71 in the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams Tuesday night on the Norsemen’s home floor.

The loss snapped the Cowboys’ nine-game winning streak as they will take a 9-1 overall mark and 0-1 OCAC record to Melvin Self Field House Thursday night  against Seminole State. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m.

“We played very poorly tonight,” said Cowboys head coach Bill Muse. “When they make a run at us coming out of the half, and they caught us we just fell apart. We had really poor point-guard play tonight. Just way too many turnovers.”

Connors led at the half 37-28 before the Norsemen got the first of four ties in the opening 13 minutes of play.

NEO behind Jeremiah Morris’ 15 points took the lead for good 57-56 with 8:17remaining. Norsemen then ran off eight unanswered points for a 65-57 lead with 6:20 left.

Jones’ 15 battled back to within four points with 40 seconds left, but the Norsemen answered with two free throws to ice the victory.
