MIAMI, Okla.–Connors State playing before a hostile crowd fell behind 72-61 with 3:21 remaining to battle back to within four points with 26 seconds remaining but could not overtake Northeastern A&M, falling 77-71 in the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams Tuesday night on the Norsemen’s home floor.
The loss snapped the Cowboys’ nine-game winning streak as they will take a 9-1 overall mark and 0-1 OCAC record to Melvin Self Field House Thursday night against Seminole State. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m.
“We played very poorly tonight,” said Cowboys head coach Bill Muse. “When they make a run at us coming out of the half, and they caught us we just fell apart. We had really poor point-guard play tonight. Just way too many turnovers.”
Connors led at the half 37-28 before the Norsemen got the first of four ties in the opening 13 minutes of play.
NEO behind Jeremiah Morris’ 15 points took the lead for good 57-56 with 8:17remaining. Norsemen then ran off eight unanswered points for a 65-57 lead with 6:20 left.
The Cowboys behind Ra’Shawn Langston’s 26 points and Mason
Jones’ 15 battled back to within four points with 40 seconds left, but the Norsemen answered with two free throws to ice the victory.
