Cowgirls opened the second half of its 2017-18 season with a non-conference loss to Midland Chaparrals 67-48

MIDLAND, TEXAS — Connors State Cowgirls opened the second half of its 2017-18 basketball season Thursday night with a non-conference loss to Midland Chaparrals 67-48.

The second quarter was the Cowgirls down fall as the Chaparrals outscored Connors 18-3 for a 32-14 lead at the half.

“It was just a big mis-match,” said Cowgirls head coach Jamie Fisher. “They dominated the boards with such a big height advantage. We were outrebounded by 38 and they had 28 second-chance scoring opportunities.

“We shot only 9-of-42 from behind the arc,” said Fisher.

The Cowgirls (8-7) will conclude their Texas trip on Friday with a game against Howard College at 2 p.m. in Big Spring, Texas.

DeAuja Thompson led the Cowgirls scoring with 19 points with Mikiah McDonald adding another 10 in the loss.

Paige Robinson led Midland’s scoring with 12 points.
