TISHOMINGO, Okla–DeAuja Thompson scored a career high 32 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Connors State Cowgirls fell to Murray State Aggies 73-66 in an Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference clash Monday night at Howard A. Beames Field House.
Trailing by 20 points 65-45 with 5:31 remaining in the game, the Cowgirls fought back to within five points 71-66 with 10 seconds remaining but could not overcome the deficit as the Aggies drained two free throws to ice the game.
Connors (1-2, 9-8) will return home to play Western Oklahoma State College Thursday night at Melvin Self Field House. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m. Murray State improves to 1-2 in league play and 5-10 on the year.
Cowgirls’ last lead of the game came with 8:40 remaining in the second quarter on a bucket by Thompson giving Connors a 21-20 advantage. The Aggies scored two quick buckets to regain the lead and never looked back to secure the win.
Hannah Howard led the Aggies scoring with 20 points with Toni Greene adding another 16.
Mikiah McDonald followed Thompson in the Connors scouring with 14.
