Cowgirls Put Down Western State, 79-55

WARNER— Jordan Austin came off the bench and connected on four consecutive shots from behind the arc to spark the Connors State Cowgirls in the opening half en route to a 79-55 Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference victory Thursday night at Melvin Self Field House.

Austin , who finished with 14 points, was one of six Cowgirls to finish in double figures. DeAuja Thompson also finished with 14 points with Mikiah McDonald adding 12, Bailey Pendley 11 with Sadie Carter and Tierra Jones adding 10 each.

The Cowgirls (10-8, 2-2) will go on the road Monday night to El Reno to battle Redlands Community College before returning home next Thursday to battle Northern Oklahoma-Enid. Western State is now 7-9 and 2-2.

Cowgirls led 16-12 at the 2:41 mark of the first quarter when Austin came off the bench to drain her next three shots all from behind the arc giving Connors a 25-12 lead.

“Jordan has done a very good job for us,” said Cowgirls head Coach Jamie Fisher. “She was out most of the first semester and has come back and played well the second half.”

Western then scored four points to make it a 27-17 Cowgirls game, when Austin drained her first shot of the second period for a 28-17 CSC advantage.

From that point n it was all Connors as they streaked to a 43-27 lead at the half. Connors held a 26 point lead twice, the largest of the game, and the last with 3:36 remaining 69-43.

The closest the Lady Pioneers came the rest of the way was 20 points.

Western’s scoring was led by Ariel Williams with 17, followed by Paradize Jackson with 12 and Sharlee Brown added 10.

“I thought we played very well defensively,” said Fisher. “Our guards did a really good job  defending them.”
