WARNER— DeAuja Thompson and Sadie Carter powered the Connors Cowgirls to a 76-63 Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over visiting Murray State Thursday at Melvin Self Field House.
The Cowgirls improved to 12-13 on the season and 5-7 in OCAC play, while Murray falls to 9-14 and 5-7.
Connors will go on the road Monday to Altus to battle Western Oklahoma State in conference play.
Thompson led the Cowgirls offensive assault with 29 points with Carter also scoring in double figures with 16 points. Toni Green led Murray with 13, followed by Hannah Howard’s 12, with Hannah Wade adding 11 and Alex Bolozova scoring 10.
Cowgirls head coach Jamie Fisher called the win a “total team victory.”
“Thompson played really well tonight,” said Fisher, adding “along with Sadie.
“But I thought everybody played well. We were short a couple (Mikiah McDonald injured) that takes a toll. McDonald is our second leading scorer.
“But Tierr Jones stepped up in her place, along with Kristen Webb.
“Everyone stepped upped and played their role tonight,” said Fisher.
It was Connors’ 25 point scoring burst in the second quarter which provided the margin of victory. Cowgirls outscored the Lady Aggies 25-16 in the quarter.
Connors largest lead of the game was 15 points, 72-57 with 2:41remaining in the game.
Behind Thompson’s first half 20 point performance the Cowgirls held a 41-31 lead at the half.
