ALTUS–Missed scoring opportunites and turnovers proved too much for the Connors Cowgirls to overcome as they fell to Western Oklahoma State 48-44 in Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
The Cowgirls are now 13-13 on the season and 4-7 in league play while Western improves 10-15 and 4-8.
Connors returns home Thursday to play Redlands Community College at Melvin Self Field House. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
Cowgirls let a 10-point half time lead evaporate in the third quarter as the Lady Pioneers outscored Connors 20-6 in the quarter for a 34-30 advantage.
Western took its first lead of the game at the 4:37 mark of the third period 27 -26 and never looked back. Cowgirls never could regain the lead from Western.
Tierra Jones led the Cowgirls scoring with 13 points with DeAuja Thompson and Saide Carter scored 10 points each.
Ariel Williams led Western’s scoring with 21, followed by Paradize Jackson with 16.
Cowgirls held a 10-point advantage at the half, 24-14 behind the 10-point production of Jones.
Connors largest lead of the first 20 minutes was 11 points, 18-7 with 6:09 left in the second quarter.
The Lady Pioneers never led in the first half with Ariel Williams leading Western’s first half scoring with 11 points.
