Fourth Ranked Cowboys Roll Past Eastern State 11-5 in Region II Tournament

WOODWARD—Fourth ranked Connors State struck late to pound Eastern Oklahoma State College Mountaineers 11-5 at Crystal Beach Field Friday in the second round of the Region II Baseball Tournament.

  

The Cowboys advanced to the quarterfinals on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m.  clash with No. 1 seed Seminole State (38-10). The Trojans defeated  Northeastern A&M ( 25-26) 17-5 on Friday  in the late game.

 

Cowboys (48-7) got things started in the first inning when Tony Hrynkiw's sac fly scored one run for Connors State.

 

Eastern knotted the game up at four in the top of the fourth inning, when Chance Parker singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.

 

Connors pulled away for good with three runs in the fifth inning. In the fifth Jake Womack homered on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs and Colton Burgess hit a solo homer.

 

Eastern scored three runs in the fourth inning. David Vilches and Parker all drove in runs in the frame.

 

Cowboys scored four runs in the eighth inning. Connors big bats were led by Carson Johnson, Womack, Burgess, and Braden Callico, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

 

Logan Gragg was the winning pitcher for Connors. He surrendered five runs on six hits over six innings, striking out four. Brian Martinez threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

 

Jacob Womack took the loss for Eastern. He went four and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits and striking out one.

 

Eastern tallied two home runs on the day. Vilches had a four bagger in the fourth and fifth innings.

 

Womack, Northern, and Burgess all collected two hits each for the Cowboys. Johnson led Connors State Cowboys with three hits in five at bats.
