BARTLESVILE—Connors State Cowboys led the host Oklahoma Wesleyan Junior Varsity by only nine points with 10 minutes remaining in the game before turning up the defensive intensity to capture a 97-65 victory Thursday night.
The 23rd-ranked Cowboys remain unbeaten (6-0) as their string of consecutive 100-point games was snapped at four.
Connors will return to action on Friday night at Melvin Self Field House against Central Baptist College. Tip-off is 7 p.m. It will be the second meeting of the year between the two schools in which the Cowboys won in their season opener 99-51.
"We did some good things tonight, especially the final 10 minutes on defense" said Connors head coach Bill Muse. "I was particularly pleased with the play of Putnam. He continues to improve each game."
Connors led 46-31 at the half before putting the defensive pressure on the Eagles in the final 10 minutes.
