WARNER----Connors State holding a one point lead at the half, 39-38, exploded for 51 points in the final 20 minutes en route to a 90-78 victory over Southern Arkansas Tech Junior Varsity at Mel Self Field House Saturday.
The 23rd ranked Cowboys improved to 9-1 on the year heading into Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference play Tuesday on the road against Northern Oklahoma Enid at 7:30 p.m.
"We were fortunate to win this one," said Connors head coach Muse. "We have to play better defense."
The Cowboys' SMU transfer Elijah Landrum, who scored only six points, sustained an injury with eight minutes left in the first half. He sat out until the final minute of play. He is expected to be ready for the NOC-Enid clash on Tuesday.
Cowboys had four players score in double figures with Burke Putnam leading the attack for Connors with 20 points.
Connors won the game at the free throw line knocking down 40-of-57 attempts, while Southern Arkansas Tech was 16-of-24. Sheldon Stever led the Tech scoring with 30 points.
