Riggs, Tanksley Lead Cowboys Rout of Mid-American Christian JV

OKLAHOMA CITY---Caleb Riggs and Daylon Tanksley scored career highs in leading the 22nd ranked Connors Cowboys to a120-61 rout of Mid-American Christian University Junior Varsity at the Gaulke Activity Center Wednesday.

Cowboys close out their first semester with a stunning 15-1 record and 2-0 mark in the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference. Connors will return to the court on January 6th at Melvin Self Field House against Seminole State College in an OCAC clash. It will be the beginning of a 14 game OCAC schedule.

Riggs and Tanksley led the Cowboys' offensive assault with 28 and 26 points respectively. The sophomores led three other teammates who scored in double figures,  Jarquavious Cain 16, Jordan Graham 14 and Gabe Hornsby with 11 points.

"We got off to slow start, but then started to hit our shots," said Coach Bill Muse. "In the long run, you look at the big picture it was a pretty easy victory. Everybody got to play before Christmas and everybody scored .We are a bunch of happy campers right now." 

Nine Cowboys scored in the game, with the only player not seeing action was point-guard Callen Haydon, who is nursing a foot injury. He is expected to be at full speed when the Cowboys open conference play.

Riggs eclipsed his previous career high of 20 points against Mid-American on November 18th. Tanksley's previous career high was 25 against Eastern Oklahoma State on November 25th in the 122-114 overtime win.

"I am happy with the way Tanksley finished the semester the way he did," said Muse. "He talented and I hope he can continue next semester.

"Riggs has been consistent at the two-guard spot and has shot the ball well," said Muse

The Cowboys cruised to a 56-31 advantage at the half and was never contested in the game. Connors drained 16 treys in the one-sided game with Riggs leading the way with eight from behind the arc.

In their first meeting with the Eagles, Connors took a 119-61 victory in November on the Cowboys home floor.
