TONKAWA---Eighth ranked Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa handed the Connors State Cowboys their worst defeat of the season Thursday night at Piper Field House.
The Cowboys fell to the Mavericks 95-57 in Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
"I don't know what to say about this, "said Coach Bill Muse. "This is the worst defeat we've had in a long time."
The Cowboys (15-3, 2-2) return home to play Northeastern A&M Monday at Melvin Self Field House. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m. The Mavericks improved to 16-1 on the year and 2-1 in OCAC play.
It was Connors second consecutive loss. The last time the Cowboys had lost two straight was the 2015-16 season, in back-to-back games with Arkansas Baptist College.
The Cowboys stayed with Mavericks in the opening 10 minutes of play, leading 10-9 with 11:59 remaining. That was the last time Connors would hold the lead as the Mavericks took command and held a 31-21 lead at the intermission.
It was all Tonkawa in the final 20 minutes leading by as much as 38 points.
In a move to get some offensive punch into the Cowboys' attack Muse pulled the redshirt status of Isaiah Francis, 6-2 sophomore transfer guard from New Mexico Military, who has been out much of the year with an injured wrist. Francis played in both halves and finished with nine points.
Tyrel Morgan led the Mavericks' scoring with 22 points followed by Demaree King's 19, Avante Lederer's 15 and Deaveon Bankston's 10.
