Cowgirls Lose Twice to No. 17 Crowder College, 9-8, 5-4

GREENWOOD, Ark.---Connors State sustained two one-run heartbreaking  losses to 17th-ranked Crowder College, 9-8 and 5-4 in non-conference  softball play Saturday.

In the opener the Cowgirls (2-5) lost when an error cost them, resulting in a loss which broke an 8-8 deadlock in the seventh.

Morgan Britt collected four hits to lead Connors' 12-hit attack, singling in the first, fourth and sixth with a double in the third.

Connors took an early lead in the first with a run, with Crowder scoring four in its half of the first. Cowgirls battled back with one in the second and three in third to take a 5-4 lead.

Britt and Kyzia Whisenhunt had the big bats in the third inning driving in runs.

Connors had two home runs in the game, Katy Medlin in the second and Haley Castle in the top of the seventh to tie game.

Medlin started in the circle for the Cowgirls going 6 1/3 innings, striking out seven.

In the nightcap the Cowgirls led 4-1 going into the top of the sixth when Crowder rallied with four runs n their half to capture the victory. CSC was held scoreless in the seventh.

Connors outhit Crowder 11-8, with Braxten Frazier (4-for-4), Britt and Mikayla Wildcat collecting multiple hits.

Wildcat opened in the circle for CSC going six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and striking out one.

In the twin bill Britt was 7-for-8 at the plate, scoring two runs with four RBIs and a double.

Frazier was also 7-for-8 at the plate, scoring two runs with three RBIs and two doubles on the day.

Cowgirls will return to action on Feb. 25th with a doubleheader at Trinity Valley Texas.
