Bryan Howard, a Henryetta native is entering his first year as head coach of the Connors State softball program.

He inherits a team which posted a 16-31 record under interim and former head coach Rick Carbone.

 Following a one-year stint at Tabor College in Kansas he will have four players from last season’s 2019 squad which will serve as the nucleuses to build around.

Returning to the Cowgirls are Haley Castle, shortstop from Leedey; Katlin Mathis outfielder from Broken Arrow; Braxten Frazier, catcher from Asher; and Maylin Hladin, pitcher/infielder from  Earlsboro.

Prior to his time in Kansas Howard was an assistant with the University of Tulsa where he helped the Hurricane win the American Athletic Conference title in 2018.

In his first two seasons at Northern Oklahoma-Enid  Howard lead the Lady Jets to two winning seasons, posting a 72-45 record and its first ever Top 20 national record during the 2017 season.

Before taking the reins at Northern he was the head coach at Mustang High School for one season, leading the Lady Broncos to their first 6A State Championship in twenty-seven years posting a 36-4 record.

While at Mustang he coached The Gatorade Player of the Year and NCAA National Champion pitcher, Jayden Chestnut, who played at the University of Oklahoma, as well as two All-Staters, while being named the Large West All-State head coach and Region 11 Coach of the Year.


Prior to his work in Mustang, Howard led the Washington High program to two State Championships and a combined record of 207-77.

Howard won back-to-back state championships in two different classes (3A & 6A) in fast pitch winning in 2013 and 2014.

 He has also been involved in travel softball for the past twelve years, coaching four different teams (Oklahoma Rebels, Oklahoma Canes, Oklahoma Synergy and Oklahoma Athletics). Recently Howard has coached Oklahoma Athletics.


Howard received his Bachelor of General Studies degree from Northeastern State University and a Masters Degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Sports Management.

Howard and his wife Ashton, reside in Haskell with their son, Lincoln. He has two daughters, Kristan 27 and Tymber 24. They also has three granddaughters,  Isabell, Audree and Remington.
