WARNER–Connors State Cowgirls upset bid of 20th-ranked Northern Oklahoma-Enid fell short Thursday at Melvin Self Field House.
Cowgirls battled backed from a 12-point deficit four times to within three points before falling 70-58 in an Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference clash.
"I was really proud of our girls tonight," said Cowgirls head coach Jamie Fisher."It was a team effort. They fought hard to come back.
"They could have quit and they didn't. We just couldn't get over the hump. That's a team that's going to contend for the conference championship.
"It was a fun game," said Fisher.
Trailing 56-44 with 8:17 remaining in the fourth quarter Cowgirls battled to with three points 58-55 at the 4:04 mark before the Lady Jets outscored Connors 12-3 for the final verdict.
Sadie Carter led the late Cowgirls charge with 15 points to spearhead the offensive attack. She was followed in the scoring by DeAuja Thompson and Mikiah McDonald with 10 points each.
The Lady Jets had five players score in double figures with Andi Pierce leading the attack with 19 points followed by McKeena Pulley's 18 and Taylor Sylvester's 13 points. Adding 10 points each were Eureisa Brown and Tanara Combs with 10 each.
NOC-Enid held a 23-13 lead after the first quarter and stretched its lead to 12 points, 27-15 t the 8:06 mark of the second quarter.
The Cowgirls then scored 9 unanswered points to slice the Lady Jets' lead to three points 27-24 with 2:47 left in the half.
Enid outscored the Cowgirls 6-4 the remaining of the half for a 33-29 advantage.
