WARNER—Connors State Cowgirls posted their fourth consecutive victory but it wasn't easy, a 62-48 win over visiting Neosho County Tuesday afternoon at Melvin Self Field House.
Cowgirls (6-1) will return to the court on Tuesday Nov. 27 on the road against Northern Oklahoma-Enid in their Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference opener. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m.
"Our inexperienced showed late in the game when it got close," said Coach Jamie Fisher. ""You could tell we don't know how to play with a big lead. There is a fine line between playing conservative and playing aggressive.
"They cut it to six points and we found a way to pull it back out. I am proud of the way we started the game. "said Fisher.
Cowgirls jumped out to 12-point first quarter lead 17-5 and stretched it to a 20 point lead at the half, 41-21.
However, the Panthers battled back to within six points, 52-46 with 4:11 left in the game, before the Cowgirls scored 10 unanswered points to increase its advantage to 16 points, 62-46 with 56 seconds remaining.
With the preliminaries over (non-conference games) for the Cowgirls they are stepping into the frying pan with NOC-Enid on Tuesday.
"At this point I didn't thing we would be 7-1, due to the youth of this team," said Fisher, adding "But that's great.
"We have a lot of tough games this semester, including one right out of the fryng pan."
