TISHOMINGO—Murray State drained 17-of-22 free throws compared to Connors State's 7-of-10 at the stripe to capture a 63-56 victory over the Cowgirls in an Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference clash on the Aggies home floor.
"This game was won at the free throw line and we didn't get as many opportunities as Murray," said Coach Jamie Fisher. "They just went to the line more than we did. That was a game changer."
Cowgirls held an 18-10 advantage at the end of the first quarter and led at the half, 28-25. However, the wheels came off in the second half for the Cowgirls. Murray State outscored Connors 37-28 in the final 20 minutes to get the victory.
"We had a bad third quarter (outscored 21-10) after leading at the half. We just didn't play very well the second half. We had too many breakdowns defensively," said Fisher.
Shaniqua Patterson was the Cowgirls top scorer with 14 points while Cheyenne Marshall scored 12 in the loss.
Murray had three players score in double figures with Hannah Wade and Kes Reeves scoring 15 points each. Aaliyah Endsley added 13 for the Aggies.
Cowgirls will take a 14-13 season mark and 6-8 OCAC record to Western Oklahoma State on Monday. Tip-off is 5:50 p.m. Murray State improves to 10-15 overall and 6-7 in league play.
