CAMADEN, ARK.—Sophomore center De'Asia Reid and freshman guard Zee McCalister scored in double figures in leading the Connors State Cowgirls to a season opening 76-38 rout of Southern-Shreveport in the Southern Arkansas-Tech University Classic Friday afternoon.
"I was very impressed what we did today," said Cowgirls head coach Jamie Fisher. "We did some good things. It was a good start."
Reid led the Cowgirls offensive assault with 18 points, while McCalister added another 12 as 10 other Cowgirls scored in the one-sided contest.
"They are both great additions to our program," said Fisher. He also praised the play of freshman center Chalynn Mayes from Muldrow.
"I thought she played really well in the post and scored some points (8) down low."
Connors will next play Cohoma (Miss.) Community College Saturday at noon.
Cowgirls struck fast against the Jaguars draining three consecutive treys in jumping out to a 21-12 lead after the first quarter of play.
"Knocking down those three's early really opened up our inside game," said Fisher. "Once we controlled the paint there was nothing they could do."
Connors kept up the offensive pressure in the second quarter streaking to a 35-15 advantage at the half. The Cowgirls put the game away with 20 points in the third period, increasing its margin to 30 points, surging to a 55-25 leads.
Nina Ritchie led the Jaguars' scoring with 14 points with Ah'Millon scoring 10 points in the loss.
