Cowgirls BEAT Western in a DOUBLE OT Thriller!!!!!!!!
Cowgirls welcome Western OK State (8-7) in Melvin Fieldhouse on Monday night. The game came with a lot of emotions with the theme being "PLAY FOR MOMMA MUSE"
Cowgirls started the game hot early and opened up a 9-2 run to start the game. Pioneers ended finishing the first quarter with a 16-12 lead. After a back and forth game in the first half the Cowgirls found themselves down 4 at half. (32-36).
"I explained to our girls at half that we were in a battle and it would take everyone playing hard for us to pull this one out. I knew this was going to be a game of adjustments and making the right play. Our girls continued to fight all night long."
The Cowgirls came out firing on all cylinders in the 3rd and managed to get a 16 point lead at one point in the 3rd. Pioneers never gave up and made thier run late in the 3rd bringing the Connors lead to 57-52 at the end of the 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter the game became very exciting. Both teams were trading buckets and by the end of regulation we had it all tied at 81.
In OT1 the game was alot like the forth quarter with neither team getting a edge. Late in the game Aaliyah Scott hits a big three for Connors to take by 2 and the Pioneers scored late to send the game to double OT. Like most of tonights game in Double OT it became the Kiaya Davis show. She scored the last 7 points to give the Cowgirls a 104-102 WIN!
Connors State had 3 players in double figures tonight Kiaya Davis led all scorers with 41 points with 11 points coming in overtime. She tallied a double-double adding 13 rebounds
Addyson Gream finishes with 18 points and 11 boards. Gream has been out majority of the season with a foot injury. Tonight the 6'2 post and she made her presence felt.
Ally Anderson added 13 points and found her hands on 4 loose balls.
"I really like how our team competed tonight. We had a really tough non conference schedule so I knew we were prepared. We executed and made plays when it was important. I really believe the differnece in tonights game was how hard my kids played AFTER mistakes. I have preached to them to move on from bad plays and I think tonight we did that. I'm excited to compete with my group and can't wait for the road ahead." -Thompson
Connors will head to Seminole State Thursday January 9th to take on the Belles @ 5:30
