Saturday afternoon, the Cowgirls went down to Northern Oklahoma- Tonkawa for a matchup against the Lady Mavericks. This was a reschedule conference matchup from Tuesday. Cowgirls managed to keep momentum from Thursday as they grabbed thier first road conference win 68-66.
Coach Thompson was back on the sidelines and here is what he said about his Cowgirls and the win on Saturday. " This week was tough for me. I don't remember being that sick in a very long time. I do however apprecaite Coach July for stepping up in my absences and grabbing the win for us. Today felt really good to be back. Although I did not practice with my team I knew we are at the point where the system has been installed it's up to us to execute. I think we played extremely hard and as a team today. I saw a lot of effort on both ends and I really like that because I have felt like I haven't needed to preach that as much lately. We got going early but I knew good teams make runs so I proud of our team for keep composure and playing through runs."
Cowgirls started the game slow down 6-0 early but never wavered. The Cowgirls took the lead late and the 2nd quarter and led by 10 going into halftime. The Lady Mavericks will go on another run late in the 4th quarter but some key free throws from Brooklyn Austin and Aaliyah Scott helped seal the deal for the Cowgirls
Kiaya Davis has been good a season and continues to show why she is 3rd in the country in scoring as she finished with 36 points. 10 Rebounds
